South African lotteries: review 2020.02.24-03.01

Hope you all are doing well! For us, it was a great week preparing the results of the lotteries across South Africa last week (24 February-1 March). Some of these were really exciting. Below, we will present the latest trends there.

There were two draws last week (Wednesday, 26 February and Saturday, 29 February). Unfortunately, no one won the jackpot (6 numbers) any of these days. However, there were some great results on both draws. The second best prize worth either R97,311.3 or R125,715.7 (5 numbers + BONUS) was acquired by 2 players (1 on Wednesday and 1 on Saturday). The chance to win prizes from R20 started from 1 in 96 - so we wish everyone best of luck while playing next week.

Another popular lottery had its two draws last week: one on Tuesday (25 February) and one on Friday (28 February). There were no winners of the main jackpot (5 numbers plus POWERBALL) across these draws, but 3 players got all necessary numbers the second best result (5 numbers). This combination was worth R350,820.3 on Tuesday and R225,369.5 on Friday. The probability of getting this prize was 1 in 1,286,062 during both draws.

Similarly as for its co-lottery Powerball, Powerball Plus draws were set on the same days last week: Tuesday (25 February) and Friday (28 February). There were also no winners of the jackpot (5 numbers + POWERBALL) across both draws. However, on Tuesday’s draw, 3 players won R56,071.2 (the second best prize for 5 correct numbers) each whereas on Friday 5 players received R41,821.9 each. The probability to win these second best prizes was exactly the same as in the original version of Powerball - 1 in 1,286,062.

Lotto Plus 1 was live two times last week: Wednesday (26 February) and Saturday (29 February). Unfortunately, there were no winners of the jackpot. Nevertheless, we are happy to share that 3 people managed to score the second best prize (5 numbers + BONUS). This happened during both Wednesday and Saturday draws. Overall, the winners of this prize took home either R141,938.6 (1 person) or R99,991.7 (2 people).

Finally, Lotto Plus 2 was on air during the same days as Lotto Plus 1 (i.e., Wednesday the 26th and Saturday the 29th). Although there were not any winners of the jackpot (6 numbers), 1 player won the second best prize - collecting 5 right numbers and an extra BONUS brought R127,384.0 for each of them. The chance to get this prize was 1 in 3393086.67.
